A 51 yrd old BAR. Flew my first bird at 10 and went through the entire Estes line. Started scratch building in the 60's and continued until high school.
The usual story, life and other events kept my attention until one day my wife Brenda and I were telling tales of our mispent youths- she is the daughter of a really chauvanistic englishman who thinks women belong at home and pregnant and are only smart enough to clean house. In keeping with this mindset, he helped her two older brother build and fly MR's (he was a design engineer at McDonald Douglas)- the wife got the privilege of watching from the car. As I retold my experiences and she shared hers, our two daughters Jaime and Ellen Sue jumped right in wanting to build kits of their own. I went out and blew a ten dollar bill on two cheap Estes kits and the rest is history. Those two little urchins have about 20 birds apiece. I just couldn't stay out of the action, and after helping them get started, I scratch built my level 1 cert bird, the 'Ozone Express'. With the advice of Brett and Kirk, I made the necessary design changes and it flew a nearly flawless first flight on Oct. 14th. I did zipper slightly, but I learned from my mistake. Now I'm off to HP multi-stage stuff, building a knockoff of the BSD 'Intrepid' for my first attempt at electronics and dual deployment(triple??). This will no doubt, be my level 2 cert bird come spring. I will fly and empty payload section to cert, THEN load my 8mm movie cam in for the next flight. It's about time SPARC had some movies to show off on Rocketry Online :)
